The Constitutional Court said
Wednesday that it was impossible for it to hold a hearing on the
legitimacy of the Italicum election law before the January 24
date that it has set.
The court said holding the hearing earlier would deny the
parties involved the full amount of time stipulated by law to
present themselves as such and file depositions.
The court added that it is "operating according to the rules
of the judicial bodies".
The resolution of the political crisis that started with the
No vote's win in Sunday's Constitutional referendum, which
prompted Premier Matteo Renzi to announce he was quitting, is
complicated by the fact that the Constitutional Court must rule
on the Italicum.
