The reforms pointman in the
Sardinian regional government, Gianmario Demuro, of Premier
Matteo Renzi's Democratic Party (PD), quit Tuesday after the
crushing defeat in Sunday's Constitutional reform referendum for
the Yes vote for which he had campaigned vigorously. Sardinia
topped Italy's No vote with 72.22% against the reform passed by
the government of Renzi, who decided to resign after the result.
Nationwide, Italy voted by almost 60% to 40% to sink Renzi's
overhaul of Italy's political machinery, with a very high
turnout of 70%.
