Real politicians don't mock
voters with demagoguery, apathy, and conspiracy theories,
Premier Matteo Renzi told a rally for a 'Yes' vote on a December
4 referendum in Avellino Wednesday. "If you forgot to renew the
fridge cleanup contract, that's not a conspiracy," he said in
reference to Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi's allegations that the
large number of fridges and items of furniture dumped in the
streets of the capital was suspicious. Raggi is from the
opposition, populist and euroskeptic 5-Star Movement (M5S). The
mayor of Rome chose not to bid to host the 2024 Olympics but in
that case she can't ask the International Olympic Committee
(IOC) for the Olympic funds, Renzi added, calling the failed bid
"a real pity for Italy".
