The Italian government is
expected to receive a letter from the European Commission asking
for clarification about its 2017 draft budget plan on Monday or
Tuesday, sources said.
Other counties are expected to get similar letters.
The communication is expected to ask for information about
the planned deficit-to-GDP ratio of 2.3% next year, higher than
previously agreed with the EC, the number of one-off measures to
feature in the budget and financing for the government's
anti-seismic plan after the August 24 earthquake that devastated
parts of central Italy.
Premier Matteo Renzi has said that Rome does not intend to
make mayor changes to the budget plan and that said such
clarification requests are normal.
