Lawyers for Rome's city
government incorrectly applied a legislative decree in their
opinion on the nomination of Carla Raineri as the city's cabinet
chief, ANSA has learned from the report by Italy's national
anti-corruption authority ANAC that led to Raineri's resignation
on Thursday.
Raineri, a magistrate, and budget cabinet member Marcello
Minenna resigned on Wednesday night.
Mayor Virginia Raggi said on Facebook that ANAC had
declared Raineri's nomination to the post improper under Article
90 of a 2000 legislative decree on local bodies, known as TUEL
in its Italian acronym.
ANAC has sent its view on Raineri's position to the
Superior Council of the Magistrature (CSM), the judiciary's
self-governing body, ANSA sources said.
The nomination of Raineri had already been examined by the
CSM on July 29, when divisions emerged in the council over the
appointment.
ANAC is also due to announce plans to check over the acts
adopted by the administration, in collaboration with the city
council, ANSA sources said.
