A decree raising the retirement
age of judges, currently 70, is expected to go before cabinet
when it holds its first meeting after the summer break on
Thursday, ANSA sources said Tuesday. A decree that would once
again delay retirement for magistrates turning 70 has been under
discussion in recent days. Those who favor the delay have said
the risk is that without it, as many as 250-300 judicial
positions would suddenly be empty, including important posts
such as those of Cassation Court President Giovanni Canzio and
Cassation Court Prosecutor General Pasquale Ciccolo.
