Italian President Sergio Mattarella
on Wednesday said insults are unacceptable in politics.
''It is unacceptable to repeatedly insult political
adversaries - making them a target of a true campaign of
denigration or rancor'', the president said at the annual
'Ventaglio' ceremony in which the president is given a
decorative fan by the Parliamentary Press Association (ASP).
''Countering also forms of violence present in language is
by all means necessary for security'', Mattarella also said.
Earlier this week Matteo Salvini, the leader of the
rightwing anti-migrant Northern League party, compared Lower
House Speaker Laura Boldrini to a blow-up doll.
