(see related) Premier Matteo Renzi
said public investment in infrastructure projects was necessary
for Italy's economic growth as he he opened a new section of the
A3 motorway in the southern region of Calabria on Tuesday.
"In the past the technocrats stopped public investments,"
Renzi said at the inauguration of a viaduct on the
Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway.
"Naturally these should be carried out without waste. But
public investments should be made, otherwise we cut our own
legs.
"Italy is greater than those who want to stop it and the
Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway is a symbol of the fact that,
if we work in the same direction, the results speak for
themselves.
"The time when people laughed at Italy is over".
