The anti-establishment 5-Star
Movement (M5S) has overtaken Premier Matteo Renzi's ruling
Democratic Party (PD) as Italy's most popular party and would
beat it by more than 10 points in a run-off if there were a
general election tomorrow, a Demos poll for La Repubblica said
Friday.
The M5S, which recently beat the PD in mayoral run-offs in
Rome and Turin, rose 5% to 32% in the latest poll while the PD,
which lost 19 out of 20 run-offs to the M5S across Italy, was
charting 0.1% down at 30.1%.
M5S bigwig and Deputy House Speaker Luigi Di Maio is now
Italy's most popular politician with an approval rating of 41%,
overtaking Renzi on 40%, the poll said.
