Anti-immigrant Northern League leader
Matteo Salvini said Tuesday this year's Republic Day
celebrations June 2 should be abolished because "it's a
celebration of a Republic invaded (by migrants) and unemployed".
"Someone says there isn't an invasion?," he said, referring
to Premier Matteo Renzi.
"What do you think of 13,000 people arriving in a week?"
"With four million Italians unemployed and a million and a
half children under the poverty line, what is there to be
celebrated? It should be abolished".
