The parliamentary anti-mafia
commission on Tuesday listed the following 14 candidates as
'unpresentable' in June 5 local elections: 7 in Battipaglia:
Carmine Fasano, Daniela Minniti, Lucio Carrara, Francesco
Procida, Bartolomeo D'Apuzzo, Demetrio Landi and Giuseppe Del
Percio; 5 in Rome: Antonio Carone, Domenico Schioppa, Antonio
Giugliano, Fernando Vendetti, and, the only one bidding for a
Rome council place, Mattia Marchetti; and 2 in Calabria: at
Scalea, Carmelo Bagnato and at San Sostene, Alessandro
Codispoti. Anti-mafia chair Rosy Bindi said all 14 were
candidates in civic lists, which, she said, were "gateways for
the mafia". "The situation is, overall, encouraging," she said,"
even though some data are worrying".
