Northern League leader Matteo
Salvini said Tuesday that former Italian president Giorgio
Napolitano should be "taken to hospital" after he accused the
League of being xenophobic. "Napolitano should be taken to
hospital, he doesn't know what's he's saying any more. He's
talking nonsense and I'm sorry he's getting a stipend from the
Italian State," Salvini said. Napolitano earlier called the
League "the main expression of xenophobic, nationalistic and now
anti-European positions". The League's parliamentary caucus
leaders earlier said the League was going to sue Napolitano,
saying xenophobia meant being afraid of others while "we aren't
afraid of anyone".
