Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right
Forza Italia (Fi) party on Thursday voiced the hope that "all
the centre right" will rally behind FI's new candidate for Rome
mayor, Alfio Marchini. FI has decided to back Marchini, formerly
an independent, after its former candidate, former civil
protection chief Guido Bertolaso, dropped out earlier Thursday.
The centre-right ticket for the June 5 elections is split as the
Northern League, the top party on the centre right, is backing
rightwing Brothers of Italy leader Giorgia Meloni.
