Italy has the second lowest
employment rate in the European Union after Greece, according to
Eurostat 2015 figures released on Tuesday.
Employment in Italy stood at 60.5%, shoulder to shoulder
with Croatia and just above Greece that came bottom at 54.9%.
Sweden came top with 80.5% employment followed by Germany
with 78% and Great Britain with 76.9%.
Italy also performed badly in terms of the employment gap
between men and women.
This stood at 20 percentage points, second only to Malta at
27.8%, Eurostat said.
The countries with the lowest employment gender gap were
Finland at 2.1%, Lithuania at 2.4% and Latvia at 4%.
