Egypt has so far failed in the
search for truth over the Cairo torture and murder of university
researcher Giulio Regeni, European Parliament Speaker Martin
Schulz said Friday.
"The European Parliament has already expressed itself on
(the case), asking Egyptian authorities to prove their
transparency and collaborate with the authorities.
"So far they have failed in this task".
Schulz was addressing the Siena University for Foreigners
after receiving an honorary degree there.
"The European Union and the European Parliament will
continue to be vigilant," Schulz said.
"Giulio Regeni was an Italian citizen but also a European
citizen. And the European Union supports Italy in the search for
the truth".
