Former civil protection chief Guido
Bertolaso said Thursday Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right Forza
Italia (FI) party had renewed its backing for him to become Rome
mayor June 5, while giving a mandate to leader Silvio Berlusconi
to see if the split centre right can "find more unity". He said
"I'm not giving up, the goal is June 5". Bertolaso dismissed
widespread speculation that, given his poor polling numbers, he
would be asked to make way for the Northern League's candidate,
Brothers of Italy leader Giorgia Meloni.
