The European Commission is set to
propose using the leeway in the Stability Pact for security
spending, in particular to assess the costs of "exceptional
events" governments have to face, EU sources said Wednesday.
Brussels will shortly present the new approach to be used for
assessing spending linked to the fight against terrorism and
intends to use this starting in May, when it will issue new
evaluations on public accounts. Italy has been among the
countries pushing for such budget "flexibility" to be granted to
member States in the front line against terror.
