Italian police on
Wednesday arrested 23 suspected members of an 'Ndrangheta clan
in a probe into the Calabrian mafia's penetration of the
political and business sectors in and around the city of Vibo
Valentia.
Some 70 million euros in assets were seized including three
ships, police said.
Vibo Valentia provincial president Andrea Niglia was placed
under investigation for mafia association along with several
other local officials.
A statue of the Madonna used in a local procession on a
fest day was found on a boat owned by one of the bosses
arrested.
