Premier Matteo Renzi told
opposition lawmakers Tuesday his landmark Jobs Act has generated
"unequivocal" numbers. "The Jobs Act data...cannot be
misunderstood," Renzi said. "Today's INPS data signaled a
slowdown but in 2015 - very simply - there were 911,000 new
full-time permanent job contracts. We made that incentive happen
and we are proud (it) helped employers make new hires. And we
are also sorry some have pulled back with respect to that
commitment". As far as the asylum seeker crisis, Renzi said
while more migrants have reached Italy this year, numbers have
been inflated by some. "Of course we are concerned, but the
increase was of 4-5% not 57%," he said. The premier was replying
to two no-confidence motions lodged against his administration
by three center-right opposition parties.
