EU
foreign affairs chief Federica Mogherini said Friday "we feel
shame and frustration over the walls we see rising in Europe".
"We should also feel proud of this Italy and this Europe,
which are saving human lives," she added during a visit to
Italy's Cavour aircraft carrier, which is the command center for
the European Union Naval Force Mediterranean (EUNAVFOR Med)
anti-refugee trafficking mission.
"Raising walls won't work" because refugees will circumvent
or bring them down, she added.
Mogherini added she will propose extending the EUNAVFOR Med
mission to Libyan waters - on Libyan government request - at
next Monday's summit of EU foreign and defence ministers.
"I've already talked it over with (Libyan) Premier Fayez
al-Sarraj," Mogherini said.
