Premier Matteo Renzi said Thursday
the campaign for an October referendum ratifying the abolition
of the Senate in a landmark constitutional reform would be "very
tough, given what's at stake". He said he was prepared to use
the "most effective arguments" in favour of the reform to
streamline Italy's costly and unwieldy political machinery.
Renzi has staked his political future on the referendum.
