Lower House Speaker Laura Boldrini
called Thursday for renewed efforts to liberate 276 young women
kidnapped by the Boko Haram Islamist extremist group exactly two
years ago. "Video proves the 276 girls abducted by Boko Haram in
Nigeria two years ago are alive. Let us commit to freeing them
#BringBackOurGirls," she tweeted after American news channel CNN
broadcast a video purporting to show the kidnapped girls.
Premier Matteo Renzi also joined the call to mobilize for the
girls. "Today more than ever, those young women have the right
to a future," he wrote on his online newsletter. "The world has
no future without full liberty for women...Bring back our
girls". The Islamist terrorists abducted the girls from a state
secondary school in the northeastern town of Chibok on April 14,
2014. While 57 managed to escape, 219 remain missing and all
rescue attempts have failed.
