The Milan stock exchange posted
gains Monday as the benchmark FTSE MIB index of blue chip stocks
added 1.25% to close at 17,722 points.
Investors were bullish on banks ahead of a government fund
to take on non-performing loans and guarantee capital increases.
Banco Popolare jumped 10.3%, Monte dei Paschi di Siena
added 9.78%, UBI Banca rose 7%, BPM gained 5.98% and Banca
Carige advanced by 5.36%.
