Maria Elena Boschi said Monday that "greater balance" was needed
in the use of wiretaps.
"(A draft reform on the subject) is being examined by the
Senate after the Lower House approved it," said Boschi during a
visit to London. "The aim is not to reduce magistrates' powers
of investigation. It's right for them to have all the
instruments to do their job well at disposal".
The government wants to merge "the right to investigate,
the right to self-defence, and the privacy of some information
when not strictly necessary for probative purposes or to
guarantee the right to media information," she said.
"We must come up with a better way to balance" all of the
above, Boschi said.
