Premier Matteo Renzi said
Wednesday the cleanup of a former steelworks at Bagnoli in
Naples should be completed by 2019. "It will take 36 months of
work to clean up this area after years of neglect," he said.
"Immediate cleanup operations will begin in 2016, followed by
regeneration in January 2017 and infrastructure at the end of
2017". Bagnoli "has been a wound in the heart of Naples and
Italy for years," he added. "We will not allow one more minute
to pass without doing everything in our power to return Bagnoli
to Naples and to the Italian people... In spite of the lies, we
are not pouring more cement but cutting it down".
