Foreign Minister Paolo
Gentiloni's warnings that Italy will take immediate action if
Egypt continues not to fully cooperate on Giulio Regeni's murder
"complicates matters," Egypt said Tuesday. Foreign ministry
spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a statement that the warnings
"complicate matters further," given that they were made one day
before the arrival in Rome of the Egyptian team of prosecutors
and senior police officers to share with the Italians the
results of the Egyptian investigation into the death of the
Cambridge doctoral student. Speaking to parliament Tuesday,
Gentiloni threatened "immediate and proportionate" action if
Egypt keeps stonewalling on the investigation into Regeni's
torture and murder.
