Industry Undersecretary Antonio
Gentile said Tuesday that after the resignation of minister
Federica Guidi there would be a "gentleman's agreement" for a
2-3 day suspension of work on a competitiveness bill at the
Senate industry committee, pending the appointment of a new
minister or Premier Matteo Renzi's taking up the post on an
interim basis. If a solution is not reached soon, "we'll make a
different evaluation," he said. Gudi resigned last week over a
government amendment to the bill that benefitted her
oil-industry boyfriend Gianluca Gemelli. Gemelli, who is under
investigation, denies any wrongdoing. Guidi is not under
investigation. Renzi has said he will take over the industry
portfolio.
