The government is working with the
economy ministry, the Bank of Italy and Italy's permanent
representative at the EU to salve the woes of the Italian
banking sector, Premier Matteo Renzi told the executive of his
Democratic Party Monday. He said "we know such patient work has
been made necessary because previous governments did not have
the same courage". The main issue facing the government is how
to compensate bilked bond holders in four failed and rescued
regional lenders, Banca Etruria, Banca Marche, Cassa di
Risparmio della Provincia di Chieti (CariChieti) and Cassa di
Risparmio della Provincia di Ferrara (CariFe).
