Economy Minister Pier Carlo
Padoan said Tuesday that the government will only introduce new
tax cuts if the economic and budgetary situation permits. On
Monday Premier Matteo Renzi's executive denied reports it was
aiming to bring forward cuts in the IRPEF income tax from 2018
to 2017. "New tax cuts will be placed in a framework of
compatibility," Padoan said, drawing attention to the tax cuts
the government has already made, including a reduction in labour
taxes, the introduction of an 80-euro-a-month tax bonus for low
earners and the abolition of the TASI property tax for people's
first homes.
