The ruling center-left
Democratic Party (PD) and the opposition rightwing Northern
League (LN) no longer have a deal to cut amendments to the
government's civil unions bill now in its first Senate reading,
sources said Tuesday. The Northern League said last week it
would cut 4,500 of its amendments, leaving about 500 of them, in
a deal with the PD which envisaged its withdrawal of two
so-called 'kangaroo' amendments that cancel out all similar
amendments. A meeting between Senate whips from the two parties
has been adjourned, the sources said.
