The labor ministry said Monday a
new benefit for poor families will be capped at 400 euros a
month.
The measure, also known as social inclusion income, would
assign 80 euros per capita per month to a family of four with
underage kids, and will be capped at 400 euros for families of
five and above.
Families with underage kids and single mothers, or with
disabled or unemployed members will be given preference, the
ministry said.
The measure is not designed to create dependency, Labor
Minister Giuliano Poletti said.
"We want to avoid situations where someone receives 500
euros and adapts to living on that," he explained.
Recipients must commit to professional training, to accept
jobs offered to them, and to send their kids to school, Poletti
said.
