Premier Matteo Renzi's
government is preparing a package of different measures for the
less wealthy regions of southern Italy to insert into its 2016
budget bill, Junior Economy Minister Enrico Morando said Friday.
"An effective mix of measures is on the way for the
south," Morando told the Lower House's budget committee.
"These include the extension of a suspension of
social-security contributions for newly hired workers and
automatic tax credits for investments.
"The government is convinced about the need to promote
investment in the south".
He added that Italy's review of public spending to find
savings needs to be changed.
"The issue of the spending review should be addressed in
more systematic way, with that savings figures that need to be
obtained from every public spending sector detailed, following
the example of other EU countries, such as the United Kingdom,"
he said.
