(see related)MPs from the
anti-establishment, anti-euro 5-Star Movement (M5S) led by
comedian-turned-politician Beppe Grillo on Monday blasted
Premier Matteo Renzi's remark urging critics to stop "whining
about the South".
"With his habitual superficiality, the premier has already
solved the problem of the South by reducing everything to a
whining fit," the MPs said in a statement.
"Too bad these are not fits of whining, but cries of pain
from a land he himself has helped sink and impoverish with his
policies".
The M5S pointed to the fact that Renzi "let Campania
Governor Vincenzo De Luca take office in spite of the fact that
he was deemed unfit" under a current anti-corruption law, that
he "saved Senator Antonio Azzollini, whom the judiciary says is
responsible for the bankruptcy" of a nursing home chain in
Puglia.
"Renzi with the latest budget law cut over three billion
euros in funds for the South and scrapped tax breaks as an
incentive for new hires," the statement went on.
"This is how the South dies," the MPs said.
