French President Francois Hollande
said he spoke about "migrant reception" with Italian Premier
Matteo Renzi on the sidelines of the Eastern Partnership Summit
in Latvia on Friday, and said "reception and registration to
distinguish immigrants from those who have the right to asylum
must be done in countries that make up the front lines".
While Hollande acknowledged that Italy "doesn't want to be
left alone" in receiving incoming immigrants, he also said,
"unfortunately (Italy) is the country in which the boats arrive
and where refugees, exiles, and migrants arrive".
Hollande said that Europe's involvement should take the
form of creating centers in countries of origin or transit,
"such as Niger but also in Europe".
