Italy's domestic security agency is
focussed on three high-profile events expected to draw millions
to Italy and while it is monitoring known threats, the fear of a
lone wolf attack is high, the head of AISI said Thursday.
Arturo Esposito, head of L'Agenzia informazioni e sicurezza
interna (AISI) told the Copasir parliamentary oversight
committee that while security threats including anarchists and
jihadists are being monitored, an individual acting alone is
harder to find and track in advance.
He told the committee that millions are expected in Italy
for Milan Expo 2015, which begins in May and continues for six
month, as well as the Jubilee year declared by the Vatican and
beginning in December.
A third possible target because of its high profile is a
public viewing of the Shroud of Turin between April 19 and June
24.
The Shroud, which is rarely seen by the public, will be
displayed in the Chapel of the Shroud in the crypt beneath the
Turin's most important cathedral.
Pope Francis has said that he will visit the shroud,
reputed to bear the image of Christ, on June 21.
