All 24 defendants accused in a
regional government funding case in the northern Val d'Aosta
were acquitted, prosecutors said Monday, because no wrongdoing
was found. "The crime does not exist", prosecutors said of a
probe into allegations of embezzlement, illegal political party
financing, and misuse of public funds. The probe involved
members of political parties including the Democratic Party,
Union Valdotaine, People of Freedom (PDL) party since replaced
by Forza Italia, Alpe, and Autonomist Federation.
