Some 300 million euros from the
INAIL work-accident insurance institute will be earmarked for
building 60 "highly innovative" school buildings, Education
UnderSecretary Davide Faraone said Friday.
The tender competition for contracts to design the schools
will be launched by the summer, he told a news conference on
school construction.
The new buildings "will have to have "technological
classrooms, efficient plants, new architecture that adapts
better to new teaching models, adequate external spaces -- all
with an emphasis on the sustainability of raw material".
Meanwhile Education Minister Stefania Giannini said 40
million euros has been earmarked for monitoring of ceilings in
schools and their repair where necessary.
She disclosed the spending on the fringes of a visit to the
'De Cecco' catering school in Pescara, where part of the plaster
of the roof collapsed Feb. 18, slightly injuring three students.
The school building budget is part of a draft law that will be
examined in parliamentary committee from Monday.
