Jeroen Dijsselbloem, head of
the Eurogroup of finance ministers, seemed receptive Friday to
new Greek proposals that will be up for debate next week before
an aid extension begins, sources in Greece said.
The proposals for six important reforms, sent by Finance
Minister Yanis Varoufakis to finalize the release of continued
aid, will be discussed at Monday's meeting of the eurozone
finance ministers.
And although they are not supposed to be made public before
then, sources said that having Dijsselbloem's support will
ensure the process moves quickly.
Last month, eurozone finance ministers agreed to extend the
bail out program for Greece by another four months, contingent
on significant pledges by the Greek government of reforms.
Those reforms are expected to emphasize fighting tax
evasion and recovery of billions in euros from tax dodgers.
Bloomberg reported Friday that members of the troika
responsible for the aid will want to review the likely impact of
the proposed reform measures before approval.
The troika consists of the European Union, the European
Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund.
