Ex Democratic Party (PD) chief
Pier Luigi Bersani told RAI public radio Friday that it's time
for the party to engage in a serious internal debate.
"It's time to talk seriously, and not in sound bites. We're
changing the shape of our democracy and that's no small thing,"
he said of Premier Matteo Renzi's proposed Constitutional
reforms.
Bersani told L'Avvenire newspaper in an interview that he
would boycott Friday's PD meeting, which was convened by the
premier to discuss his reforms - including his Jobs Act - which
are opposed by a dissenting internal leftwing minority.
Bersani ceded leadership of the party to Renzi 15 months
ago.
