A protest by hired-car drivers in central Rome's Piazza Venezia transportation hub snarled traffic Friday morning.
Hundreds of limousine drivers and chauffeurs, many of whom ferry visitors to and from Rome's airports, said their jobs are at risk.
Carrying signs reading "we just want to work" the NCC drivers marched and set off smoke bombs.
They say that City of Rome authorities are planning to prevent their car-service drivers from working outside the national capital region.
An appeal is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday by the regional administrative court.
