A Neofascist group whose
members were arrested Monday allegedly plotted to carry out
attacks on top public officials, according to preliminary
investigation magistrates in charge of the case.
Targets allegedly included President Giorgio Napolitano,
Premier Matteo Renzi, House Speaker Laura Boldrini, ex premiers
Mario Monti and Enrico Letta, and former integration minister
Cecile Kyenge, court documents said.
Carabinieri police earlier on Monday conducted operations
in various parts of Italy to implement 14 arrest warrants for
people suspected of belonging to a Neofascist group that was
allegedly planning terrorist attacks.
The suspects allegedly belonged to an illegal group that
was inspired by the ideals of the disbanded "Ordine Nuovo" (New
Order) organisation and was allegedly plotting "violent actions
against institutional targets", according to the warrants issued
by magistrates in the central city of L'Aquila.
The suspects also wanted to create a new political party
after carrying out terrorism attacks to destabilise the
political system, case documents said.
