Beppe Grillo, leader of the 5-Star Movement (M5S) said Thursday that he is sure he will form a government and he is just waiting the right moment.
"I have no doubt that we will go into government if we don't hurt ourselves," Grillo said, referring to recent splits within his opposition party.
The mainstream parties are destroying themselves, particularly Premier Matteo Renzi's Democratic Party (PD).
"We just have to wait for the corpse that floats by," Grillo said during a news conference at the Foreign Press Association in Rome.
He claimed at President Giorgio Napolitano helped to shut his opposition group out of office, even though it won 25% of the vote in the last national election.
"The Movement is an interpretation of life 20 years hence," Grillo said.
"We are inside a party structure where they put us in a corner, they allied (against us) thanks to the President of the Republic," claimed Grillo.
"We, who received 25% (of the vote), should have governed, why didn't they give us the mandate (to form a government)?" Grillo asked.
He also claimed that Renzi's centre-left PD was the "point of reference" for mobsters looting Rome.
Grillo claimed that people accused in the mafia investigation were too close to the PD - but feared the M5S.
