Silvio Berlusconi was admitted
to Milan's San Raffaele hospital on Sunday after a long-standing
eye problem flared up again.
Three-time premier, the leader of the opposition
centre-right Forza Italia (FI) party), is expected to be in
hospital for about a week.
"We don't expect it to be a very short stay," said
Berlusconi's personal doctor Alberto Zangrillo.
"But that should not lead to strange interpretations".
The problem with uveitis, or irritation of the
eye, prevented Berlusconi from attending a hearing in a Milan
trial for having sex with an alleged underage prostitute known
as Ruby last year.
Berlusconi was later acquitted of those charges.
