Premier Matteo Renzi's Jobs
Act offers a "win-win solution" of more jobs, more growth, more
investments and higher pay, Economy Minister Pier Carlo Padoan
said Tuesday.
A row over scrapping Article 18 of the Workers Statute is
"paradoxical" because "it only affects a few thousand workers,"
he added.
Article 18 states that judges can give unfairly sacked
workers their jobs back.
Premier Matteo Renzi's plans to scale it back under his
signature Jobs Act have caused a rift in his ruling Democratic
Party (PD), with dissenters filing amendments against their own
party's bill, while Italy's biggest trade union federation,
CGIL, is threatening a general strike.
