Premier Matteo Renzi said Friday
that his so-called Unblock Italy measures could release as much
as 30 billion euros in funding, more than half of that
private-sector money.
Renzi said his plans, aimed at reviving the construction
and infrastructure sectors, will help to overcome the "syndrome"
of negativity he said is too often heard in Italy.
As much as 57% of the 30 billion euros in funds he said
will be available, will come from the private sector in a
package that could include more than 100 construction projects
including important public works.
He said he was confident that approvals for his measures
contained in a decree dubbed Unblock Italy could begin to come
as early as next week.
The decree is designed to help local administrations
disentangle themselves from red tape and other obstacles now
paralyzing public works and infrastructure projects.
