Italy on Monday was leading the
celebrations of one of its most popular culinary creations on
World Pizza Day.
The multitude of events and initiatives include a 24-hour
'marathon' live on Facebook and Instagram organized by the
Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana (AVPN - Real Neapolitan
Pizza Association) involving 15 countries and 12 different
languages.
This features a series of pizza 'master classes' and a ceremony
for journalists who have been outstanding at promoting the
'culture of pizza'.
Farmers' association Coldiretti, meanwhile, said that Italy's
'pizzerie' restaurants lost around 2.5 billion euros in earnings
in 2021 with respect to the pre-pandemic period due to the
impact of COVID restrictions and lower numbers of foreign
tourists.
