The traditions of the 'Land of milk and honey' are at the centre of a two-day event at Milan's Expo Gate on 29 and 30 November to present the Israeli pavilion at the upcoming Expo 2015. Technology, agriculture, food security, water management, sustainable development: these themes are all central to the Universal Exhibition and they are all areas in which Israel has significant experience that it wants to share with the international community through the daily confrontation with the challenges of poverty and world hunger.
It is no accident that the Israeli pavilion at Expo is called 'Fields of tomorrow', as General Commissioner Elazar Cohen pointed out.
"A country with limited natural resources such as Israel has from the outset had to base its agricultural policy on a long-term approach," Cohen said.
"The scarsity of natural resources has led the country to become a pioneer in the use of innovative technologies, in order to compensate for the natural lack of resources. "Though with a heritage going back thousands of years in which changes have been slow, today the agricultural sector is entirely based on technology and manages to keep pace thanks to rapid innovation," he continued.
"Israel is a young country with an ancient heritage - in just 66 years it has transformed an arid land with few natural resources into fertile ground thanks to input from research and ongoing scientific experimentation," said Israeli pavilion spokesman Menachem Gantz.
This and other topics will be discussed at the two-day event culminating in a workshop led by journalist and television presenter Alessandro Cecchi Paone.
The programme also includes live music, food tasting, activities for children and video presentations.
