A cloned Prada website was
allegedly selling counterfeit merchandise online, police said on
Friday.
Police said the site originated in China and passed through
France, the Netherlands and England, and that it had a "very
accurate graphic design" made to look exactly like the Italian
brand's actual website.
Despite attention to the slightest details made to fool
buyers into thinking they were shopping at the real Prada
website - the same retail prices, use of the usual major payment
systems - the payments were credited to an account in Guangdong,
China, and the merchandise was sent from Hong Kong, requiring
buyers to pay customs charges to have the packages released,
police said.
Investigators brought in inspectors from Prada itself to
ascertain that the merchandise was indeed counterfeit.
