Italian actress, director and
producer Valeria Golino has been chosen to sit on the official
jury at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in May.
Her nomination comes after festival organisers announced
that no Italian films would be in the running for the main
competition section's coveted Palme d'Or prize.
Golino, who has produced Stefano Mordini's 'Pericle il
Nero' (Pericles the Black) starring Riccardo Scamarcio that is
competing in the separate Un Certain Regard section - part of
the festival's Official Selection - will be one of eight jury
members supporting the president, Australian director, producer
and screenwriter George Miller.
The others are French director Arnaud Desplechin, US
actress Kirsten Dunst, Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen, Hungarian
director László Nemes, French actress and singer Vanessa
Paradis, Iranian producer Katayoon Shahabi and Canadian actor
Donald Sutherland.
Cannes runs from May 11-22.
