The annual international modern
and contemporary art fair Miart opens in the pavilions of
FieraMilanocity on Friday under the direction of Vincenzo de
Bellis.
Some 154 international art galleries from 16 countries are
set to attend this 21st edition, presenting the best of modern
and contemporary art and limited-edition design.
The fair is accompanied by Miartweek, a week-long programme
of meetings, exhibitions and events in the Lombardy regional
capital.
Important novelties this year include Decades, a new
section providing an overview of 20th-century artistic
production by decade.
Nine galleries present a narrative that highlights Miart's
two main elements in support of quality modern art at a time
when the international market is more orientated towards
contemporary production, particularly in Italy.
There are also the four sections that have characterised
Miart since 2013.
These are Established, bringing together 99 exhibitors
subdivided into the sub-sections Master (modern art) and
Contemporary; Emergent (16 international galleries focusing on
the young generations); THENnow (eight pairs of galleries
presenting a dialogue between a historic artist and one
belonging to a more recent generation); and Object (14 galleries
active in promoting limited-edition contemporary design objects
that are considered works of art).
"Milan confirms itself to be one of the most important
international hubs for the valorisation of creative thinking and
an ideal city for the production of contemporary art," executive
city councillor for culture Filippo Del Corno said.
Public institutions, foundations and private galleries are
involved in the associated Miartweek, whose program includes
visits to the XXI Triennale di Milano - 21st Century. Design
after design, the special opening of the Prada Foundation and
exhibitions dedicated to Umberto Boccioni and Symbolism.
